Cancer does not discriminate. Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK.
Whatever your shape, size or age, we all need to be breast aware. It’s important to know what is normal for you; where to check; and the signs and symptoms to look for.
Hull & East Riding Breast Friends (HER Breast Friends), was founded in 2005 by Jan Jones and Liz Drury, who at the time were both undergoing treatment for breast cancer at Castle Hill Hospital. They realised that there was a need for a group that didn’t focus on the disease. They wanted to use the experience that they were going through in a positive way to help not only themselves but others. To provide the practical help that is needed.
HER Breast Friends is unique to the area. Run by volunteers and supported by one full time employee, all of whom have been affected in some way by breast cancer, they rely solely on fundraising and donations to provide the services and activities they provide. These include patient gift packs, a wig bank, bra service, Buddleia complementary and beauty therapies, craft club, dance class, monthly coffee mornings and a yearly flagship event The Pink Pamper Day.
In 2012 the Breast Awareness Campaign Team was formed to get the vitally important message about being breast aware out to the general public. A pre-emptive strike so to speak.
Our guest speaker Pam thought she knew the signs to look out for, so was taken by complete surprise when she was diagnosed.
Join our virtual event to hear more about the amazing work these ladies do and who they help. They’ll share statistics, do a breast awareness talk, show a short video on wig fitting, and finish with a Q & A session.
Her Breast Friends is our chosen Women of Achievement Awards charity for next year’s awards.
This is a FREE virtual event for members only.
Bookings are closed for this event.
