The legacy of women within our community
Date(s) - 7 June 2018
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Join us for an inspirational afternoon as part of Biz Week.
We are honoured to be joined by Yvonne Blenkinsop, one of the founding member’s of the Hessle Road Women’s Committee and more recently known as ‘Hull’s Head Scarf Heroes’. The Committee was formed after the 1968 Triple Trawler Disaster in which 58 men perished. Yvonne was one of four inspirational women who lobbied the government into action to force new shipping laws which saved countless future lives.
Yvonne will give you an insight into the passion and spirit of these ladies who fought for their community’s safety. Yvonne will be joined by Hayley Buchan, the Co-Founder of Creative X-Change, a Community Theatre organisation based in Hull. Hayley was inspired by the powerful force of Yvonne and women of her time and went on to write and produce the play ‘She Wears My Ring’ set in the 1960’s Hessle Road community which featured young aspiring Hull actors. The show went on to have 3 sell out runs in Hull each receiving outstanding reviews. Together Yvonne and Hayley will talk about the legacy of women within our community, a legacy which Women in Business wish to support to inspire our current generation and beyond.
This event is FREE. Guests welcome – so please feel free to invite your friends / colleagues. But please still book so we know how many for refreshments!
